COMMITTEE CHAIRS

FACT:

Dade Phelan has led two of the most conservative sessions in history. Appointing chairs from both parties is a longstanding practice in the Texas Legislature, including under the leadership of Lt. Governor Dan Patrick in the Senate. It takes 100 votes in the House to pass certain bills (like the $18 billion property tax cut Dade passed last year), making it necessary to have the support of lawmakers from both sides of the aisle.

There is not a single instance in which a Democrat chair killed a priority piece of conservative legislation. In an interview with the Texas Tribune, David Covey admitted he was “unable to name a conservative priority that has failed in the chamber” despite repeating this lie over and over in his campaign. This is more proof that David Covey is willing to say or do anything to get elected—even if it means lying to constituents.
